Crossbite
A crossbite can occur in the front and/or the sides of the mouth. A crossbite occurs when one or more upper teeth bite on the inside of the lower teeth. If a crossbite is not corrected it can cause excessive wear of the teeth, and gum disease, including loss of bone around the tooth.
Overbite
An overbite occurs when the upper front teeth protrude over the lower front teeth. An overbite is due to an overgrowth of the upper jaw or flaring of the upper teeth. An overbite should be corrected because it can lead to improper functioning of your front teeth, damage to your gum tissue, and jaw or joint problems.
Overjet
An overjet is also known as a protrusion. An overjet is where the lower teeth are too far behind the upper front teeth. This can be caused by an improper alignment of the molars, a skeletal imbalance of the upper and lower jaw, flared upper incisors, or missing lower teeth.
Underbite
An underbite occurs when the lower teeth protrude past the front teeth. An underbite is usually caused by undergrowth of the upper jaw, overgrowth of the lower jaw, or a combination of the two. Underbite can also be caused by flared lower incisors.
